When it's spring again

By Natasha Fernandopulle

Jith Peiris is one of our country’s veterans of theatre and is one personality who needs no introduction. After being more or less out of the scene for a while, Jith will be producing and directing a number of shows this year. And these shows will all start off with an evening which will certainly worth being a part of, when he brings to you When It’s Spring Again.

It will be an evening of song and dance and will consist of artistes with experience as well as a few young performers. “I want to give new artistes a chance,” says Jith. The main performances will be by Eshantha Pieris, Peshali Yapa, Shanelle Fernando, Tony Fernandez’ dancers, The Meneka Singers and Tarja de Silva along with her troupe.

When It’s Spring Again will open with a piano recital by the Eshantha Peiris and will follow with a duet with his brother. Timeless numbers like “O’ Danny Boy,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” a few ABBA numbers, as well as some classics will definitely be worth listening to. The Waltz along with Latin American as well as free-style dancing will all be part of the dances at When It’s Spring Again.

“For me, it’s exciting because it’s been a while since my last production,” he said, adding, “It’s also been a while since I will be doing something on my own.”

When It’s Spring Again, will go on boards at The Lionel Wendt Theatre on Friday March 20, 2009, at 7.30pm. The tickets for the show are currently available at the Yamaha Centre, 296, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 and later on at the Lionel Wendt Theatre. The media sponsors for the When It’s Spring Again are The Daily Mirror, Hi Magazine and The Sunday Times.
