Awareness about the new vehicle e-revenue licence system launched by the Western Province Department of Motor Traffic, Maligawatte on December 30 is to be raised owing to a reluctance by motorists to use this online facility.
Acting Commissioner of the Western Province Department of Motor Traffic, A.K.R Alawatte told the Business Times that many people are not using this facility because of their fear of credit card fraud.
The other reason was the lack of awareness on the eRevenue Licence facility, he said.
Another reason was that some motorists are yet to transfer vehicles under their names,
The Western Province Department of Motor Traffic plans to launch a publicity campaign to attract and encourage more vehicle owners to apply for the e-revenue licence even from their households through Internet which is very simple to follow.
The Western Province Department earns Rs.6 million a day on an average in revenue but less that 1% of this total comes from Internet registrations. However he hoped more people will use this facility due to its convenience in renewing or getting vehicle revenue licences sitting at home.
eRevenue Licence is a facility under the Lanka Gate Project put in place under the Re-engineering Government Programme of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) which implements the eSri Lanka initiative.
This new portal Lanka Gate has been developed in three languages (English, Sinhala and Tamil) and will be updated in all the three languages and every citizen can create their own user account on the site. |
