National carrier SriLankan Airlines partnered the recently concluded Galle Literary Festival for its fourth consecutive year, helping the festival again land a truly international offering of artists.

Interestingly, this year's speaker line-up included blogger-turned-novelist Amit Varma, once named by Business Week "as one of India's 50 Most Powerful People". He was joined by British historian Anthony Beever; influential London-based writer, novelist and TV documentary maker, Diran Adebayo; five-time South African novelist and Man Booker Price Judge 2008, Louise Doughty; English Poets Jackie Kay and Wendy Cope; cinematographer and writer Monica Narula; and graphic novelist, artist and film-maker, Sarnath Banerjee.
A new feature of the festival this year was the inclusion of Southern Provincial schools in seminars and workshops on writing as part of an outreach programme for local schools held throughout the year. |
