A Hobby Fair aimed at bringing together Sri Lanka’s main hobbyists opens next week in Colombo at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre and runs from February 12 to 14. It is open to all amateur and professional hobbyists, artists and crafts persons, the organisers said recently.
“We hope that this Fair will evoke memories of our own hobbies which we enjoyed in our youth, and demonstrate what our children can do in their leisure time, without becoming victims to boredom and stress.
We are also sure this will help decrease violence and turn our youth away from drugs,” the Hon. Secretary of the Rotary Club of Colombo, Rohan Karunaratne was quoted as saying.
Organized by the Rotary Club of Colombo and Sri Lanka Anti Narcotics Association (SLANA), the Fair enables participants to showcase their own hobbies be it anything from the traditional stamp collecting, quilting and painting to the more diverse hobbies like body piercing, electronics and graffiti art.
“Hobbies bring people together and they encourage a passion for what one may want as a career in the future. This event will enable people to see which hobbies Sri Lankans are most passionate about,” organizing committee member, Sriyan de S Wijeyeratne was quoted as saying. |
