Nawaloka Hospitals PLC says it has introduced Sri Lanka’s first Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging machine for accurate and painless breast cancer detection.
The hospital says the technique is fast and painless, and can differentiate between benign and malignant growths.
“Elasticity Imaging is a major breakthrough in the long quest for simpler, safer and more efficient tools for breast cancer detection and is therefore the answer to the prayers of those dreading biopsies,” said a statement from Nawaloka Hospitals.
An ultrasound hand piece, known as a ‘Transducer’, is used to record two images - the first, a standard ultrasound picture and second, an image known as an Elastrogram, which is displayed on the adjoining monitor. A benign lump appears smaller on the Elastrogram while a malignant lump appears larger. A simple comparison of the two images can determine suspicious lumps.
“With Elastrography, thousands of women need no longer undergo unnecessary biopsies as a result of inaccurate diagnoses,”said Nawaloka Hospitals. |
