Thames Group is a forerunner in enrolling students for overseas studies at various universities since 2004 through its student placement services companies. Recently many students have found it very hard to engage in their studies overseas due to various constraints of which financial constraints, visa regulations and the entry processes take a dominant role.
This has been identified and addressed by our students, their parents and university partners and as a solution to these persistent problems the Thames Group established the Thames College of Further and Higher Education to bridge this gap. This college was ceremonially inaugurated on March 24 2010 by the chief guest Prof. Tissa Vitharana - former Cabinet Minister of Higher Education. Thames College is currently being administered by a team of academic experts led by Prof. Upali Jayasekera - former Dean of Sabaragamuwa University.
Thames College has recognized that it is absolutely necessary to supplement the current education system to improve knowledge and thereby uplift the life of modern society. The college provides academic assistance to students through their British university partners and can be identified as a true British education provider. The affiliated universities are among the Top UK universities. The UK University division of Thames College is tagged as the "First in mind for UK Education". Under this tag line Thames College differentiates itself as an innovative trend-setter.
The assistance given to students under the Thames College UK University division is twofold. Firstly, the college will provide its expert professional services with a difference. The unique approach is to assess student skills and abilities, identify various financial, academic and personal constrains that could limit the student and then match him or her to an appropriate course of study in a suitable university in UK. Secondly, the college having identified the inherent huge potential of the youth of Sri Lanka has made it a point to ensure that they match the real needs, expectations and opportunities of the employment market. Under this option, Thames College students can study initial stages of a degree or any other course and continue the remaining stages at a chosen university in UK.
These initial stages of a degree available in Sri Lanka are the Foundation Year programmes and the first and second year of various degree programmes. Thames College will also assist them in gaining admission to the university of their choice. The curriculum and course material developed by partner universities will enable Thames College students to have all the credits they receive in Sri Lanka transferred to UK universities. Students can be assured that the cost of studying in UK is tremendously reduced by completing the initial stages in Sri Lanka.
Thames College boasts of a modern building with state-of-the-art facilities including air-conditioned and fully carpeted lecture halls with multi media projectors. The whole College building is also Wi-Fi enabled.
