The University is based around eight Academic Schools dedicated to Arts/ Business/ Law/ Engineering & design/ Health Sciences & Social care/ Information Systems, Computing & Mathematics/ Social Sciences /Law and Sport & education. There are also seven Specialist Research Institutes (SRIs).

It has an academic staff of 577 with additional 382 professionals and 120 research staff. The undergraduate student population in 2009/10 is 9,475 home and EU students with 1,074 international students. For postgraduate course work there are 1,632 home and EU students and 1,304 international students.
Sri Lankan students with GCE A/Ls can apply for direct entry to an undergraduate programme. Grade requirements will be similar to those expected of UK A/L students.
There is a pathway available to students with lesser direct entry A/L results to enter through the LIBT diploma programme which on successful completion will enable students to enter the desired undergraduate programme at year 2.
Holders of a good Bachelor's degree from a prestigious university/institution will be eligible for entry to a Master's degree by course work. English requirement for entry to courses at Brunel is based on IELTS.
The entry score in IELTS is 6.0 for u/g courses in Engineering/ IT/ Computing, Maths and Health Sciences whereas all other courses require 6.5. The same applies for P/G courses by course work except courses on Environment that require 6.0 other than those related to Climate Change that require 6.5.
The academic year 2010 /11 commences with the Autumn intake on September 27 2010 with enrolments from Sept. 20-24. Edlocate a premier student agency in Sri Lanka has just been appointed by Brunel to represent it directly because of its standing as a reputed student agency in Sri Lanka.
