The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) celebrates its 10th Anniversary in June this year by hosting the "2nd CMA Global Management Accounting Summit 2010" in Colombo Sri Lanka. The co-hosts will be ICWA India, ICMA Pakistan and ICMA Bangladesh. The technical partners are CMA Canada and IMA USA.
CMA started its operations in June 2000 as the Society of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in April 2009. With this for the first time the Management Accounting Profession was officially recognized by the Government of Sri Lanka. CMA was admitted as a member of Sri Lanka and has both a Chartered and Management Accounting body similar to the other South Asian nations India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. It is also similar in USA, UK and Canada.
The theme of the Summit is "CMA for Sustainable Business'. This topic has great relevance to the government and business sector; and sustainability and sustainable development are changing business culture and society. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
The topics for discussion of Governance and Sustainability will have as its lead speaker Mr Roger M Tabor who is the Chairman of the Professional Accountants in Business (PAIB) of the International Federation of Accountants.
The other speakers will include Prof. Richard Petty President CPA Australia and Bob Strachan the Chairman of the Council of CMA Canada. We will have a galaxy of eminent speakers including Dr Raef Lawson from the Institue of Management Accountants of USA, Joy Thomas President of CMA Canada, Ms Manisha Gupta of Delloites India, Lawrence Lai Ernst & Young Singapore, Chandra Wadhwa past president ICWAI and the presidents of the South Asian management accounting bodies.
The keynote speaker at the inauguration will be Prof. Mohan Munasinghe Co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace, and at the valedictory sessions the Chief Guest will be the Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Sarath Amunugama, the keynote address will be by Mr Ajith Nivard Cabraal Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Mr. R. Bandyopadhyay Secreatry Ministry of Corporate Affairs Government of India.
Many other leading speakers both local and overseas have been invited to address the summit. Foreign speakers will be from UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. |
