Cutting Edge is an annual exhibition that demonstrates state-of-the-art IT and Business projects researched and developed by students at Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT).
It will be held on June 18 and 19 at IIT, 57 Ramakrishna Road, Wellawatte.
Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) is a well renowned institute of higher education which conducts IT and Business degrees in collaboration with University of Westminster (UOW) of UK.
Whilst the students obtain a degree from a prestigious British University, we strive to create well rounded individuals who will be future leaders in the IT and Business fields.
It is noteworthy to highlight the achievements of some of the IIT students as a result of their participation at Cutting Edge 2009. Two students Lahiru Priyadharshana and Amani Soysa won Gold and Bronze at the National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) conducted by the BCS (Sri Lanka Branch).
They were chosen to represent Sri Lanka at the APICTA held in Australia and competed against Singapore, China, Australia, India and several other countries in the region and won 2 merit awards of the possible three. The single Gold award was won by Singapore.
This gives an indication of the academic standards we strive to maintain at IIT. Cutting Edge exhibition will portray projects carried out by first, second and final year students of IIT.
For example the first and second year students have developed applications that support learning Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics for O/L and A/L students.
The final year students on the other hand have developed projects which portray creativity in the fields of Medicine, Botany, Marketing, Human Computer Interaction, Biometric related projects and a host of other versatile applications. These applications are innovative and thought provoking which will encourage young students to embark on new scientific ventures.
The exhibition serves as a venue for students aspiring to embark on a career to gain valuable knowledge in areas that will interest them and make it possible for them to decide on a future discipline of study. The exhibition is open form 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. |
