Computers: Once only from the US, now all over the world

In just over a decade most of the manufacturing for servers, desktops, laptops and netbooks has shifted over to Taiwan and China. One statistic indicates that 30% of all laptops are manufactured by Taiwan-based Quanta Computers while 82.6% of laptops were made by Taiwan according to a 2006 report by market research firm iSuppl. A high but indeterminate quantity of which was sourced through manufacturing facilities in China.

A country which has in recent times been highlighted as the new cradle of computer manufacturing, a situation which was brought to the fore when Lenovo of China acquired the global consumer computers arm of heavyweight IBM in 2005.

Indicated below are the most widely available personal computer brands available in Sri Lanka as well as their country of origin, some of the products they sell and the countries in which they have manufacturing facilities across the world.
