The average (mean) base salaries for entry level IT sector positions in the field of Application Support start at Rs. 21,250 while those entering into Business Analysis/ Business Consulting, Software Quality Assurance and Software Engineering areas earn base salaries of Rs. 31,525, Rs. 35,482 and Rs. 38,480, respectively, according to a Price Waterhouse Coopers research study into IT sector pay done jointly with local IT-BPO group SLASSCOM.
Tapping 28 IT BPO sector companies, this survey also said that IT sector total compensation (which also included fixed allowances, variable allowances, benefits) for the same entry level IT jobs, whose base salaries are displayed above, saw base salaries raised by an additional Rs. 8,000 (Application Support) to Rs. 12,000 (Software Engineering) approximately.
Additionaly, a SLASSCOM statement has also revealed that the "great recession of 2008 – 2009 has resulted in unprecedented cost-cutting actions for most organizations in Sri Lanka – especially cuts related to compensation and benefits and had greater influence on Information Technology industry as well." |
