The Chillies 2010, Sri Lanka’s advertising awards will go forth next month despite changes to the blue print which has rankled some ad agencies.
The eligibility criteria this year requires any organization submitting entries to the Awards to be a member of either the International Advertising Association (IAA) or the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As) which one agency says is wrongful and discriminatory.
However, according to a member of the steering committee, the blue print stands as it is and the normal process of pre-screening will take place.
The deadline for television and radio entries was April 22 while the deadline for print entries was April 24. Non-traditional media entries and campaign entries have to be submitted by April 26 and April 28 respectively. The Awards show has been tentatively scheduled for Monday May 17 although this date has not been finalized due to some problems securing a venue.
Advertising agency Phoenix Ogilvy has publicly criticized the Chillies 2010 eligibility criteria and in a letter sent to the Sri Lanka Advertising Award Secretariat this week, described the criteria as ‘a wrongful and discriminatory act and an act of vengeance aimed at preventing us from competing.’
Phoenix Ogilvy Chairman Irvin Weerackody stated in the letter that the restrictions in eligibility criteria introduced in the blue print 2010 cannot be implemented or enforced and is neither lawful or valid.
The agency submitted its entries but said the submissions should not be regarded or deemed as any agreement by them to abide by the provisions of the blue print. |
