Records tumbled as hundreds of thousands of Sri Lankans flocked to the automated teller machines of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon in the week preceding the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the bank claimed this week.
The bank said in a statement its 360-strong ATM network, said to be the largest cash dispensing system in Sri Lanka, had set a single-day record of Rs 902 million on 7th April, beating its previous record of Rs 768 million set on 8th April 2009 by more than 17 %.
More than 215,000 transactions had been processed by the bank’s ATM network on 7th of April alone, at an average of more than 600 per machine and an average frequency of one cash dispensation every 2.4 minutes over a 24 hour period. |
