Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has said the Government would enhance benefits under the Divi Neguma programme with effect from next month. Beneficiaries will be offered services to the value of Rs. 3,000.
Under the programme participants will be provided plants such as coconut, pineapple, rambutan, lime, mango as well as agricultural tools and fertilizer.
The main aim of the project is to create a capacity to cater to an export market on a continuous basis. With this in mind, farmers and exporters will need to work in collaboration with one another.
Under the proposed scheme harvests will be collected directly from farmers as well as at weekly fairs to ensure export targets are met.
The Minister added samurdhi workers, grama sevakas and officials of the Agriculture Department will be required to visit at least 15 houses a day to promote the programme. |
