Sunshine on the shoulders of 1414 prisoners set free

Some 1414 prisoners were released from the country’s jails yesterday to mark the country’s 64th Independence Anniversary, officials said.

They said the prisoners, including women were mostly those jailed for minor offences and others over 70 years of age.

From those released, 145 prisoners were from Welikada, 110 from Bogambara, 177 from Mahara, 26 from Badulla, 21 from Batticoloa and 7 from Jaffna.
