The University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, continues its innovative MBA programme, complete with overseas visits for the students.
The Overseas Industrial Training Programme which was conducted for the third consecutive year was held from June 19 to 26 2010, at the University of Putra, Malaysia, on the topic of "Entrepreneurship Development Programme for MBA" for the Master's of Business Administration students - MBA Kelaniya Batch III.
A Group of 50 working professionals from different disciplines, together with selected lecturers of the faculty underwent eight days of intensive and interactive training sessions.
One session was held at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia, where the Ministry's role in entrepreneurship development was described. The group also had 'hands on' experience of this project.
The concept of "One product one village' was witnessed by the group on their visit to Malaysia. Biotechno-preneurs, Agro-based entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurs of Halaal products were among the highly innovative people the group met on this trip.
The Kelaniya University MBA programme was initiated in 2006 by the Faculty of Commerce and Management, and was promoted through the Indo-Sri Lanka Foundation aimed at providing advanced managerial education to leaders working in a dynamic and competitive global business environment.
An industrial visit to an overseas country which is a partial requirement of the programme helps in enriching the knowledge and skills of MBA students and is beneficial in improving the development of entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka. It is also an attractive way of promoting cross-cultural communication among the students.
