In a given week of incredible turnaround, Sri Lankans are still trying to recover from the partial hammering we got in Dambulla..not the cricketers but the millions of fans.
The team will have been given the hard yards by the skipper initially, and then the need to re profile, based on the facts would have been the order - good to get to the issues in the middle when the tired mind is dominant ...and it's hot hot.
What on this green earth was, our spinner Randiv's thinking? Has he never been taught the proper tradition of this great game, the spirit in which we play, and the unwritten code that is supreme ? Alas the shudder was felt worldwide and the apology in retrospect ..just a smack of sadness and little unbecoming of a lad with genuine talent - good time to wish him well and hope he grows from this horrid smudge.
I am trying to imagine the rush of feeling as Viru Shewag heard the call..disbelief and a list of swear words in both languages perhaps, knowing his appetite for runs ..missing out would be a temporary issue, but not off his radar for sure. The Indians will be grateful for the gift victory, nicely presented on a platter for them by our lads, only thing missing was a red ribbon and icing..oh yes, the cherry too !
Ayubowan, Aloha and greetings sports fans, let's get on with this week's effort so you do not absorb the loss too much, but manage to focus on the path ahead...a path that needs the nutritional support to fuel performance and success.
Eating for all of us is part of a daily process...but for athletes and high intense performers from 9 years up..it's the diet that really safeguards and inspires high level delivery.
If you are not eating properly..then expect very little from your body. As I tell all the teams and kids who train with me .." eating is not about what you like, it's what you need, so please get it right and try to imagine running the 4wheel drive without petrol. The engine with petrol will be ready to run...the one without - will look good and sound great ..but will remain where it's parked ????
Try to be wise and practical...get proper professional advice, seek information from the hospital nutritionist about healthy eating and balanced diets - if you are just a keep fit person.
The active athlete must get the performance fuel list of essentials all sorted out, so nothing is left to chance, a combination of important proteins, carbohydrates, good fats, natural fibre, vitamins, fruit etc is included into your daily life and training routine.
Now I know there are dozens of varying schools of thought, professional "grow to be a champ " programmes that can be very confusing for the kids...so it's important to check with the established professionals.
The Sports Ministry here in Colombo at Torrington can certainly help, with nutritional advice, diet plans from the nutritionist and for all related information - check with Dr Seevali Jayasinghe and he will point you in the right direction.
My good friend and established guru of fitness and muscle ability, the larger than life Thalo Alilema, whose Powerworld gym biz has grown in stature can be a source for your budding champions.
I cannot imagine two better individuals here in sunny Sri Lanka to put you on the right path - a path that does include nutrition, supplements and vitamins that will be carefully tailored to fit the engines.
We must all be extremely cautious of adding new chemicals to performance diets..a lack of knowledge and popular pressure must be avoided, as it can simply kill you if not guided with the correct information.
The steroid fat is deadly and unless medically required, quite illegal and banned from all sport.
So be very very sensible and check first - the history of sport is littered with world champions who decided to cheat and enhance their blood for reasons best known to them ; when Marrion Jones admitted to taking growth hormone...millions like me were horrified and shocked, the aftershock was greater. Go natural for the kids, stay off the deep fat fried food, increase your natural fibre, stop the heavy processed food, give up junk and fast oily food - comfort food and fizzy pop drinks that are sugar hits and more insult than good for your systems.
Plan to be sensible, eat less for like and taste ..a very big factor for us islanders, but focus more on need and what the body can use as clean energy from the food you eat.
Be wise, be sensible, be smart, eat well and be the best you can be....feed your body and mind right, and they will thank you..when it matters, under pressure and in the middle...that's when you really need to rely on your good habits.
THE habits that make you a real champion and a world-class contender..ask Kumar Sangakkara, or Susanthika Jayasinghe..the answer is not too far from home and will surprise you with its practical approach. You are what you eat...and all of us become Champions if we get it right.
Cheers. |
